Established in 1992, TrenStar celebrates a proud 2 decades in the specialised filed of Rental Returnable Packaging.
From humble beginnings 20 years ago, TrenStar has grown into a successful and sustainable business in spite of the influence of any peaks or troughs in the economy. This can be attributed to constant innovation and breaking new ground. Revolutionary in-house systems have been developed to create visibility in the supply chain, directly contributing to cost saving and effective supply chain management relative to JIT delivery, warehousing, space utilisation, stock management, reduction/elimination of damages, labour cost, productivity, just to mention a few.
Starting out with standard rental returnable packaging to replace disposable dunnage in the supply chain, the quest to ensure visibility in real time initiated a world class in house system to do just that. TrenStar, whilst expanding its core business to a myriad of clients in just about any industry ensured that the marriage with technology to ensure an intelligent, all-encompassing solution remained current. Our integrated are based on only the latest solution offerings; which now include RFID as an effective and growing solution in the supply chain.
TrenStar proudly boasts nationwide depots and many on-site operations ensuring the on-time delivery of clean and well maintained packaging together with a state of the art system that monitors and manages the every move of every piece of equipment from cradle to grave.

A proud sponsor to the Green Supply Chain Awards, we also entered the awards this year with a submission that demonstrated without doubt the untold benefit of returnable packaging to the supply chain and to the environment.
An extract form the submission…..
“For TrenStar, our greatest accomplishment lies in the measurable impact we have had upon the industry and the environment through use of returnable versus one way disposable packaging. During a sample period of two years and eight months, one client was able to eliminate the use of 528 578m2 of cardboard interlayer inserts and cardboard boxes for various parts. This equates to 528.59km2 of packing material, which would cover 1662.69 rugby fields, and translates into 132144.72 tons of waste equalling landfill of 2.65km³. If laid end to end, the material could build a road from Pretoria to Cape Town (1385km).”

Our submission highlighted the measurable efficiencies obtained in the replacement of disposable internal dunnage with returnable packaging. We demonstrated that we are in the business of saving clients’ money in a way that is simple yet effective. Our business model is essentially a mammoth recycling exercise that results in the successful sustainability of our clients as well as of the world we all share.
